An R with a South Pacific flavour. There are scroll and coil patterns along with flowers and geometric patterns in the indigenous people’s art of this area. I drew up the design with my pencil and after erasing this and adding that I scanned it in and printed out some copies on Arches paper. I had to go back to the planning stage because when it came to colour I hadn’t worked out where and when the breaks should be. Then I did several trials for the colours. Tried the ethnic ones but they looked wrong, ended up with more faded versions. I also made up a couple with the colours used in my favourite bed linen. Eventually I just painted them in like a colouring book. Designing it was the best.
