Playing with Sketches, number 5. Using a simple candle, a cardboard stencil (see right) and some paper - I experimented to see what would happen. Yes, the stencil caught on fire even after dampening, the paper nearly scorched through (the ochre colour is where this happened) I did two straight into the journal and the heat marked the reverse. It took a while to find the best position for distance between candle and paper, getting the drifting smoke without flames. Even the fixative spray changed the density of colour.
