This letter Y for the collaged alphabet book has scanned deceptively. I decided to try white on white and use some of my new purchases. Masking off the letter with tape, then a layer laid down of fiber paste mixed with acrylics to an off white with a palette knife. Covering this with several layers of gesso. I tried inktense pencils, which did not show, then some brush work with superwhite – no effect either. Next I cut out a Y stencil and loaded it up with heavy gel medium and pressed and pulled it up again all over the page. Finally another layer of gesso. The scan does not give my eye enough information for it to discern whether the patterns are receding or protruding. I think it is more interesting when backlit, the layers are more apparent.
