4th week out landscape sketching at Tahuna Torea Reserve at the end of West Tamaki Road in Glen Innes. Lots of birdlife, and did they move quickly when bags were opened, an applecore was lifted from beside my foot and carried away by a Pukeko. Dale was surrounded when eating a muffin. The tide was in when we arrived and when we left the estuary was almost empty, rain started and made it difficult to draw. There is a fresh water pond and it supported many ducks, shags and cormorants, the pukeko seemed to be thriving with whole familes running full tilt around the place. Godwits, herons, seagulls and other waders were there too.
